A Rangie kissing the sand
This Range Rover has come over a dune with way too much speed. Unfortunately, the person who e-mailed us this pic didn't know the outcome. Odd's on it turned turtle! |

Cruiser going down a steep hill
Mark demonstrates the correct way to go down a sand dune, by keeping his vehicle pointed straight down, and by using a low gear to avoide using the brakes. |

Nissan Patrol sideways on a hill climb
This turbo diesel Nissan Patrol got very sideways when trying to get up this slippery hill climb. The only way to get up was with a run-up. Notice the Feroza parked on the side, which could have easily been hit by this Patrol! |

Trevors Nissan off to the Sunset
Here's a MQ Nissan Patrol getting airborne over the crest of a hill with a nice sunset for a backdrop. |

Alan's Jackaroo bogged on a sand dune
Proof that too many revs just make you sink faster! Or was it just an effort to make an action photo! Note the serious error here - the vehicle is about to be snatched backward from it's towball, which could brake off and become a missile! |

How to wreck a 4WDHere is Tony showing how he goes over sand dunes. This is NOT how we recommend that you do it. This photo was taken at Lancelin, which is about 100K north of Perth, Western Australia. Damage? Yes! The next picture is another "jump" that Tony did on the same day... |
|
Tony's Toyota HighluxThis was a very large jump, and he payed the largest penalty! This caused the front dif housing to bend at one end where the CV joint is attached. Worried that this might be an expensive repair (very true), he sold the "lux" only a couple of weeks later. Want to know more about Tony, visit Tony's Home Page

Alan's Holden JackarooThis was also quite a high jump, hence it was also the cause of some minor damage. The chassis flexed so much, that the front fender panels shifted back far enough to touch the doors, resulting in the doors not opening very well. When I collected it from the repair shop, the workers all joked about how they loosened the panel bolts, and the panels sprung back to their correct position! |
|
Dave's Nissan PatrolThis jump was not quite as high, and it did not result in any damage (lucky!). This 4WD was always a "crowd pleaser", as it had a performance modified engine, with extractors etc... and used to rev to infinity!

Alan's FJ55 Cruiser flying over a dune
A sucsessful attempt at a sandy hill climb. Maybee just a bit too much of a run-up though. About 10KPh less would have been fast enough to make it over, but without the big jolt at the end! |
