Low Branch !!!

Cruiser with a "heavy load"

Here this cruiser just manages to pass under the overhanging "branch". The rear surf rack was bent down just a tad.

Alan's Cruiser at Eagle Bay

Alan's Cruiser at Eagle Bay

A Nice shot of Alan's cruiser at Eagle Bay in WA's south west (near Dunsborough). This photo was taken in October 1998. This is a lovely place for family picnics, bike riding, fishing, surfing and Kayaking.

Tony's 1997 Jackaroo LS V6 (Isuzu Trooper)

Tony's 1997 Holden Jackaroo LS V6!

This is what 4WD's look like before they are taken off-road! Tony is very proud of his new toy, complete with it's 3.2 litre, 24 valve, 132 Kw engine. All it needs now, is a bull bar, spotties, snorkel, raised suspension, off-road tyres, diff locks...etc...etc...

I thought my cruiser was big!!

Haul-pack at Newman!

Tiny Landcruiser? And there are many haulpacks larger than this one! This photo was taken at the tourist centre at Newman, in West Australia's North West, on 18th August 1998. These trucks carry over 200 tonne, and like locomotives, they are driven by independent electric motors on each wheel, powered by a huge diesel-electric engine.

Track from Mundaring to York

York to Mundaring track!

This track has some quite tight sections, which are often through areas containing large granite rocks. High ground clearance is a good idea for this track. Alan's cruiser scraped its rear several times here, and bottomed out on some rocks!

Track from Mundaring to York

York to Mundaring track!

Another angle of this scenic track. This track has some quite tight, winding, hilly sections, which are quite challenging, especially after some rain. Again, high ground clearance is a good idea for this track. Alan's cruiser scraped its rear several times here!

Hilux climbing a rocky hill

Hilux climbing a rocky hill!

A graphic demonstration of how easily the "Lux" negotiates hill climbs, with the help of massive ground clearance.

Brendan's Pajero, dirty for the 1st time!

Brendan's Pajero dirty at last!

This is the first time I have actually seen mud on this car! It is normally kept in showroom condition. And it ended up with much more mud on it as well!

Andrew's Pajero loaded up!

Andrew's Pajero loaded up!

Here, Andrew's Pajero is shown fully loaded (and still clean), prior to leaving on our Lake Johnson trip. By the end of the trip, is was covered in red mud!

New Nissan Turbo Diesel

New, Clean Nissan Patrol

Just a few minutes after this photo, we got this 1 week old Nissan covered in mud. See the Mud Photos Gallery!

Nissan Patrol's Turbo Diesel Engine

New Nissan Turbo Diesel Engine

We thought we should take this photo prior to getting it dirty. Note the intercooler mounted above the enging, which is cooled by air from the bonnet scoop, and electric fan. It is 2.8Litre, 6cly, turbo diesel with intercooler, and electronic diesel injection.

Suspension working well!

Alan's cruiser testing the suspension

Alan's cruiser negotiating uneven terrain on the mundaring to York track. Notice that the right back wheel is just off the ground!

Nice wheel travell!

Cruiser keeping wheels on the ground (just)

This shot also shows good suspension travel, maintaining contact with the ground, but only just!

Where's the ground gone?

Alan's Cruiser needs a diff lock!

Hmmm, I thought 80 series cruisers have long suspension travel. True, but not long enough to cross this ditch! A front or rear diff lock would have done the trick, but instead a bit of a run-up was used!
