My 3rd 4WD - Toyota Landcruiser DX HZJ80

In March 1997, I purchased my most capable 4WD. The mighty Toyota Landcruiser 80 series DX wagon. This was the first 4WD that I had owned that had coil springs all round, which when coupled to live axels, gives excellent suspension travel, and hence excellent off-road ability. I fitted bigger coils, and longer travel shockies to further enhance the suspension travel. This was also my first diesel, providing longer engine life, greater reliability for water crossings, and better fuel economy. Economy was starting to become important as fuel prices were rising. Although this vehicle was nearly 900Kg heavier than the Jackaroo, it returned slightly better fuel economy of about 22MPG. This vehicle proved to be very reliable, and was very comfortable for my family on the longer trips, due to it's coil suspension, and large interior space. I added quite a few bit to this beast over the 3 years that i owned it, but eventually sold it in my quest to get even better fuel economy, and better tax benefits for my business.
