If you would like photos emailed to you during the
trip, then send a request to Geoff Couper: gcouper@echidna.id.au
Duration: 3 weeks (arrive
home on Saturday 19th August 2000)
Distance: 7100k approx.
Vehicles: Skip's Rodeo, Gadget's Patrol, Scrounger's Landcruiser
Trip format: Camping all the way, totally self sufficient, fishing when
on the coast.
Rough plan: Depart Perth, and head north via inland route through
Newman. Drop into the Hamersley ranges for a day or 2. Then make a bee-line straight for
Bungle Bungles. After that, take in Lake Argyle, Kununurra, Wyndham, then hit the Gibb
River road, taking in the Mitchelle Plateau, Tunnel creek etc on the way to Derby. Then
head south along the coast through Broome, Port Hedland, then inland to Millstream &
Pannawonica. Back to the coast for Exmouth, Coral bay, then south to Carnarvon. Have a
look at Shark bay for some fishing on the way back, and perhaps drop in on the Dolphins at
Monkey Mia.

Fuel Cost Estimates...
The following figures are assuming an average price of $1.20 per litre for Diesel and ULP. It is likely to be less than this over the whole trip. It is also assuming that GAS is about half that price, and is available most of the way. I have included my estimate for fuel economy of 3 vehicles, when loaded and over a mixture of highway and gravel road driving:

Required: Must be fully self sufficient. All camping gear, large quantity of water and non-perishable food, first aide kit, spare tyres and parts, etc. UHF CB Radio is a must (we use channel 14). Vehicle must be capable of more than 650k between fuel stops (off road) so extra fuel may need to be carried in jerry cans.
Recovery & safety gear: We already have SSB CB, Walkie talkie, GPS, EPIRB, Turfa winch, Short Wave receiver, ropes, snatch straps, air jacks, kanga jack etc, but we still encourage everyone to bring whatever tools and recovery gear they have. A comprehensive stash of spare parts is recommended, including 2 spare wheels, radiator hoses, fan belts, filters, electrical spares etc.
