I have had many people ask me... "how did you get the Nick-name of Skip"? So I thought I would write this web page to explain it, as there is a bit of a twist. Here goes.
I used to own a boat, and be pretty keen on my fishing. My fishing buddy "Dean" used to accompany me on many deep sea fishing trips, mostly without a lot of success, but we still had plenty of fun. He used to keep an eye on the weather charts at the bureau of meteorology, and often on a Friday, he would fax me the latest weather forecasts for local waters for the coming weekend. As our fishing trips were often a little disorganised, and Dean was always mucking around in a comical sort-of-way, he reckoned it was a bit like the old hit TV show "Gilligan's Island". He would mark the faxes to "the Skipper", from "Gilligan". Often he would abbreviate this name to "Skip". Sadly, my mate Dean is no longer with us, but my Nickname stuck. But there is a twist... you want more?
When I began 4WDing with the local club, everyone just assumed that "Skip" was short for "Skippy", as in "Skippy the bush kangaroo", the 1960's TV show. I guess it sort-of makes sense, given my love for the Australian bush. And I guess that I just went along with it. Often on trips, if someone sees some Kangaroos, they will jump on the CB and say things like "Hey Skip, there goes some of your cousins" etc etc. I have also been known to pluck Gum leafs from time to time, and try to imitate the famous "Skippy whistle", used in the TV show to call the friendly kanga.
The background music to this web page is the theme song from the TV series. Enjoy!
Oh, and here are the Lyrics...
"Skippy, Skippy, Skippy
the bush kangaroo.
Skippy, Skippy, Skippy our friend ever-true."

And just for fun, here are the Lyrics for Gilligan's Island theme song...
"Just sit right back and you'll hear
a tale, a tale of a fateful trip, That started in this tropic port, aboard this
tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin' man, the Skipper brave and sure. Five passengers
set sail that day for a three hour tour. A three hour tour.
The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed. If not for the
courage of the fearless crew, the Minnow would be lost. The Minnow would be
lost.
The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle, with Gilligan,
the Skipper too, the Millionaire and his wife. The movie star, the Professor
and Mary Ann, here on Gilligan's Isle."
