Cape Arid Trip 1999
Day 5 - Thursday
18th
Esperance to Hopetown (400k)
Start odo 147637 trip 674.7. Fueled up
110.5l, $92.35 at 83.5c/l. Late 9:30 start in Esperance due to Andrea being sick. Did the
very scenic tourist loop west of Esperance. Very poor weather - rain etc, but excellent
views anyway. Went via main road, then track to Stokes inlet. Spent some time at the
campsites there, whilst Rhys and Glen wet a line. They caught some tiny Bream, which they
released. These campsites were very nice, shady, facilities and right on the waters edge.
Back on the main highway, we headed west, and turned off to Munglenup beach road. We
checked out the campsites, just a stones through from the beach, and then checked out some
4wd side tracks which were quite interesting, and had a good lookout and a couple of good
camping spots. We then hugged the coast along Springdale road (gravell road) then went
down to Mason bay, and followed 12 mile beach to hopetown. We grabbed lunch at the local
Hopetown shop. We headed North out of Hopetown on Main road, then left into John Forrest
Road, then into Fitzgerald river national park, and checked it out for campsites along the
Culham inlet. Although the campsites were very scenic, and shady, it was too windy and
hence we decided to not stay there. Rhys and Glen decided to hve a fish though, and ended
up catching some small Bream (which they threw back). I had to duck inland to
Ravensthorp for a job (sorting out soe computer problem) I got back into Hopetown at about
7:30 and made radio contact with RUss, who told me that he had booked a cabin at the
Hopetown caravan park for us. You beauty! No setting up tent in the dark!! Finish at 8:00
pm Hopetowm caravan park After job for 2.5 hrs in Ravensthorp. Finish Odo 148037.
